  Total Population & Population Distribution
  As of 2013, the number of families living in Changchun City amounted to 2,474,784, and the population totaled 7,720,000, including 3,823,596 males and 3,765,325 females, 50.4% and 49.6% of the total population, respectively. The population in districts (Nanguan, Kuancheng, Chaoyang, Erdao, Lvyuan and Shuangyang) reached 3,627,536, accounting for 47.8% of the city’s total population, and that in counties (cities) (Nong’an County, Jiutai City, Yushu City and Dehui City) was 3,961,385, accounting for 52.2% of the total population of the city. Compared with the record in the year of 2009, 23,856 more were registered in 2010, an increase of 3.1‰, but the growth rate saw a drop of 2.2‰ from 2009’s record. Changchun’s population accounted for 27.9% of the total of Jilin Province.    
  Natural Change of Population 
  In 2010, 79,004 people were born. The birthrate was 10.43 ‰, up 0.16‰ from 2009’s record. In districts, 33,129 were born, and the birthrate was 9.14‰, an increase of 0.18‰ from 2009’s amount. The number of new births per day was 216. For the whole year, 50,097 passed away, a rate of 6.61‰ or up 1.69‰ from 2009’s record. The mortality rate in districts was 7.32‰, totaling 26,520 people, up 1.74‰ from 2009’s record. The number of deaths per day was 137. The natural growth rate stood at 3.82‰, totaling 28,907 people, a drop of 1.53‰ from 2009’s record. The natural growth rate in districts was 1.82‰, totaling 6,609 people, down 1.57‰ from 2009’s record. 
  Mechanical Change of Population 
  In 2010, 74,714 people moved in Changchun City, a rate of 9.85‰, and 79,334 moved out, a rate of 10.45‰. The city experienced negative population growth, totaling 4,620 people, a rate of -0.61‰, down 0.7‰ from the record of 2009. Negative population growth appeared in such districts as Nanguan, Chaoyang and Erdao and in some counties (cities) including Jiutai City, Yushu City and Dehui. 
  Population Structure 
  In 2010, the ratio of males to females was 101.5, down 0.2% from 2009. The number of non-agricultural population was 3,345,222, accounting for 441.1% of the total, similar to the record of 2009. The proportion of non-agricultural population in Jiutai City was relatively high, 25.5%, a drop of 0.1% from 2009, and that in Yushu City was relatively low, 15.7%, a surge of 0.2% from the record of 2009.   
  As of 2010, the resident population was 7.589 million, including 3.628 million in districts, and 3.961 million in four counties (cities). The birthrate was 10.43‰, the mortality rate was 6.61‰, and the natural growth rate was 3.82‰.
  The total number of employees amounted to 3.664 million, a surge of 5.6%, including 1.291 million working in the first industry, 35.2% of the total number of people getting employed; 956,000 in the second industry, 26.1% of the city’s total number; and 1.417 million in the third industry, accounting for 38.7% of the city’s total population. Among all employees, 928,000 were hired by urban units, and 344,000 worked as individual business owners. In 2010, the average salary of employees working in non-private units was RMB35,723, a surge of 17.3% from last’s year level. 
  Ethnic Group
  As of 2010, the combined population of ethnic minority groups (46 groups, 252,000 people) comprised 3.52% of the population of Changchun City, including 138,000, or 54.7% of the total, living in urban area, and 114,000, or 45.3% of the total, living in rural area. The top five ethnic groups constitute about 98.4% (248,000) of the total population. The next largest ethnic group in terms of population include the Chinese Korean at 4,9600, or 19.9%, the Hui at 4,3700, or 17.6%, the Mongol at 11,000, or 4.5%, and Xibo at 685, or 0.4%. There are four minority towns, 43 minority villages, 258 minority communities, and 5,837 ethnic minority cadres, accounting for 2.75% of the total number of cadres of the city. In addition, there are eight ethnic minority associations, a city-level Chinese Korean art gallery, four county-level culture centers, 26 minority primary and secondary schools, a hospital at city level, four others at county level and 43 rural clinics for ethnic minority groups.
