"Boom" in the Primary Industry - Bumper Grain Harvest Boosted Steady Progress in Strong Agricultural Province Construction

 

Our province's total grain output amounted to 83.73 billion jin, hitting a historic high again. In 2023, Jilin contributed an additional 1.5 jin of grain per person to every Chinese people's rice bowl.

    

Jilin has consistently exerted pressure on itself in grain production, involving deeply implementing the strategy of "storing grain in the land and technology", advancing the "50 million metric tons of grain" production capacity construction project, and fulfilling disaster prevention and mitigation measures, as well as making fertile farmland, utilizing good seeds, promoting good techniques, optimizing agricultural machinery, and strengthening the main body, so as to give full play to its "cornerstone" role in stable national grain production and supply.

 

Jilin, at the forefront of agricultural modernization, has steadfastly upheld the fundamental direction of "taking the lead in achieving agricultural modernization and striving to be the vanguard in modern agricultural construction" to guide the development of agriculture, rural areas, and farmers. It initiated and implemented major projects such as the "50 million metric tons of grain" production capacity construction, the construction of "turning straw into meat" & ten million head of beef cattle, trillion-level agriculture and agricultural product processing, and fine food processing. It took the lead in the construction of a strong agricultural province, with a comprehensive mechanization rate of 94% for the cultivation and harvesting of major crops, which was 20 percentage points higher than the national average. Jilin has achieved remarkable results in agricultural modernization construction.

 

In addition, the province's livestock industry grew rapidly, with the growth rate of beef cattle breeding reaching 9.9%, ranking first in China. The growth rates of pigs and sheep breeding were 2.3% and 3.7%, respectively, both ranking first among the three provinces in Northeast China, while the breeding amount of sika deer reached 780,000, ranking first in China.

   

Dominant specialty products ranked among the top in the country, with ginseng and cartialgenous production ranking first nationwide and black fungus production reaching 1.184 million tons, ranking second nationwide.

 

The ecological fishery developed rapidly, characterized by the promotion of rice-fish integrated farming reaching a record high of 953,900 mu and the fishery output value increasing by 9.2% year on year.

    

In the past year, key agricultural projects in the province were accelerated, reaching a year-on-year increase of 62.7% in fixed asset investment in the primary industry. A total of 7.912 million mu of high-standard farmland was built throughout the year, reaching a historic high, with a finishing rate of 209%, ranking third in the country. Conservation tillage maintained a leading position nationwide, which was expanded to 37 million mu through the "pear tree model" improving quality and expanding coverage.

 

With the implementation and advancement of projects such as the "50 million metric tons of grain", per unit yield improvement of corn, and "ten million head of beef cattle", our province has taken practical steps in the construction of a strong agricultural province, and the agricultural rural economy has entered a new stage of accelerated development.

 

"Optimization" of the Secondary Industry - Continuous Optimization of Industrial Structures and Accelerated Formation of New Quality Productivity

 

The industry serves as a "cornerstone" and "pillar" for economic development. In 2023, the added value of the province's industries above designated size increased by 6.8% year on year, achieving 2.2 percentage points higher than the previous three quarters and 2.2 percentage points higher than the national average.

 

From the perspective of key industries, the added value of the automobile manufacturing industry increased by 11.4% year on year —

 

We fully leveraged the role of the automobile industry as a "cornerstone" and launched the "quality-promoting" project for automobile industrial clusters;

 

We spared no effort to build world-class advanced automobile manufacturing industrial clusters, while concentrating efforts to accelerate the construction of 238 "quality-promoting" projects;

 

Efforts were made to promote Changchun to be successfully selected as the first batch of national pilot cities for comprehensive electrification of public vehicles;

  

The annual production and sales volume of provincial finished automobiles increased by 16.7% and 17.6%, respectively, among which the production and sales volume of Hongqi brand vehicles increased by 12.5% and 13.1%, respectively;

 

FAW Jiefang sold 241,700 vehicles throughout the year, representing a year-on-year increase of 47%;

 

The terminal sales of FAW-Volkswagen reached over 1.91 million vehicles, representing a year-on-year increase of 4.8%.

 

The added value of the equipment manufacturing industry increased by 12.5% year on year —

 

CRRC Changchun Railway Vehicles Co., Ltd. successfully developed China's first multi-adaptation medium-volume monorail system vehicle and the world's first hydrogen-powered urban train and other new products, and the Fuxing intelligent EMU for Hangzhou Asian Games successfully completed its operation support tasks;

 

The development of the satellite and application industry was accelerated, with the "Jilin-1" 41 satellites setting a new record for China's space launch of lifting multiple satellites by a carrier rocket;

 

The first-phase project of the CRRC Songyuan New Energy Industrial Base was completed, and projects such as Sany Wind Power, Envision Group Energy, and Astronergy were completed and put into operation.

 

The added value of the textile industry increased by 11.5% year on year —

 

Policies and measures for the carbon fiber industrial development 2.0 were successively introduced to fully facilitate a highland for the development of the new materials industry, and the Jilin Carbon Fiber Industry Alliance was established to accelerate the development of the carbon fiber industry;

    

At present, our province's raw silk and carbon fiber production capacities rank first in China. Jilin Chemical Fiber achieved sales revenue of RMB 23.14 billion, with a year-on-year increase of 10.2%. Among them, the carbon fiber business achieved production of 111,000 tons, with a year-on-year increase of 38.3%.

 

The new energy industry developed rapidly —

 

Efforts were made to build the "Onshore Wind and PV Energy Three Gorges" and a full-chain system for clean energy;

   

At the end of the year, the installed capacity of new energy exceeded that of coal power;

 

Electric energy production of renewable energy such as hydropower, wind, and solar power increased by 19.0% year on year, and wind power generation ranked first in China for 10 consecutive months in terms of cumulative growth rate.

   

Strategic emerging industries saw rapid growth —

 

The output value of the new energy automobile industry increased by 32.0%;

 

The output value of the high-end equipment manufacturing industry increased by 10.2%;

 

New products maintained high-speed growth —

 

The output of new energy vehicles increased by 43.6%;

 

The output of EMUs increased by 157.1%;

 

The output of wind turbine generator systems increased by 47.6%;

 

The output of carbon fiber increased by 38.3%.

 

The impressive data is attributed to various coordinated initiatives of the province's industry and information technology system to strengthen stable growth, improve services, and provide strong support, which includes monthly centralized supervision actions, quarterly implementation of policies to stabilize growth, enhanced monitoring and scheduling of enterprise production operations, and in-depth provision of support services to key enterprises, so as to ensure the stable operation of key industries and enterprises.

 

"Prosperity" of Tertiary Industry - Robust Consumption in Many Fields and Comprehensive Recovery in the Tourism Industry

 

In this winter season, the most popular attraction on this land is none other than Jilin's ice and snow.

 

The exchange where children from Guangxi visited Jilin while children from Jilin visited Guangxi was widely discussed on the Internet. A great number of tourists flocked to the foot of Changbai Mountain to ski on powder snow, soak in hot springs, and experience drifting among the rime world; they also visited the Internet-famous walls of Yanbian University, China Korean Folk Custom Park, and Dinosaur Kingdom; moreover, they immersed themselves in the Changchun New World of Ice and Snow and experienced 10,000-people disco dancing; and they experienced the millennium-old fishing and hunting culture at the Chagan Lake. The data at Longjia International Airport kept breaking records.

 

These visible scenes of prosperity naturally reflect in the data.

   

According to the data from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, in 2023, our province received 314 million domestic tourists, a year-on-year increase of 172.8%, reaching 126.5% of the level in 2019. The domestic tourism revenue was RMB 527.735 billion, a year-on-year increase of 242%, reaching 107.3% of the level in 2019.

 

The influx of tourists has driven tourism consumption. According to Ctrip data, in 2023, the transaction volume of hotel products in our province increased by 187.8% year on year, reaching 284.4% of the level in the same period in 2019; the transaction volume of ticket products increased by 238%, reaching 575.4% of the level in the same period in 2019; and the transaction volume of vacation products increased by 566.7%, reaching 112.2% of the level in the same period in 2019.

   

Including tourism consumption, in the first year after the transition period of the three-year COVID-19 pandemic, people's interactions and exchanges became closer, along with the rapid recovery of the consumer goods market.

 

Upgraded consumer demand continued to be released, with retail sales of units above designated size of gold, silver, and jewelry, cosmetics, and sports and entertainment goods increasing by 35.9%, 23.4%, and 14.9%, respectively.

 

There was vigorous consumption of new energy vehicles, with retail sales of units above designated size of new energy vehicles increasing by 141.6% year on year, driving the retail sales of consumer goods above designated size up by 4.2 percentage points.

    

Offline consumption surged, while online consumption flourished.

 

According to third-party big data monitoring, in 2023, Jilin's online retail sales exceeded RMB 100 billion, a year-on-year increase of 24%, ranking first in the country in growth rate; rural online retail sales reached nearly RMB 47 billion, a 31% increase, maintaining the top spot in Northeast China; and cross-border e-commerce import and export volume exceeded RMB 3 billion, becoming a new growth point for foreign trade.

 

These beautiful scenes and impressive figures outline the vigorous momentum of the tertiary industry in the province. Data shows that in 2023, the added value of the province's service industry (tertiary industry) increased by 6.9% year on year, accounting for more than half of GDP and reaching 53.9%.
