The 1st International Ceramic Art Symposium to Open on July 22

News reports say that the 8th China Changchun International Ceramic Art Symposium and the 1st “Yatai Lianhua Mountain Cup” International Ceramic Art Competition will be held at the Lianhua Mountain Ecotourism Resort of Changchun City from July 22 to August 12, 2019. The event is said to be attended by 52 artists from 29 countries and regions. All preparations for the competition have now been made ready.

In line with the theme “Unique, Innovative and Integrated”, the event is sponsored by the Administrative Committee of Lianhua Mountain Ecotourism Resort of Changchun City, Changchun Foreign Affairs Office (CCFAO), Changchun Council for the Promotion of International Trade and Changchun Publishing House. It is meant to disseminate traditional Chinese culture, promote artistic exchanges between China and foreign countries, improve urban cultural taste and enrich the spiritual life of the public. During the competition, a series of activities including Changchun International Ceramics Forum, Open Day for Citizens, and Changchun in the Eyes of Pottery Artists will be held in addition to inviting artists to create ceramic works at the venue. 

As of May 15, more than 220 ceramic artists from 36 countries and regions had sent 580 samples of their works. After the preliminary evaluation by experts, 52 artists from 29 countries and regions will be invited to create artworks on the site.

To organize a fair and justice competition, in accordance with international practice, a 7-member evaluation committee has been established, and four levels of awards of gold, silver, bronze and excellence decided. There are 2 gold prizes, with a bonus of RMB100,000 per person; 5 silver prizes, with a bonus of RMB50,000 per person; 10 bronze prizes, with a bonus of RMB20,000 per person; and 35 excellence prizes, with a bonus of RMB5,000 per person.

According to the competition rules, each artist shall create three works. By the end of the competition, more than 150 works will be created, which will be collected by the Changchun International Ceramic Art Museum. By then, the amount of collections will reach 780 and that of nationalities of the invited artists will increase to 52.
