Changchun’s CPI down 1.2% in January

Changchun’s consumer price index (CPI) declined 1.2%in January year on year, expanding 1.1 percentage points from a month earlier; but increased 1.1% on a monthly basis, 0.1 percentage point higher than that of last month, according to the information released by Changchun Survey Team of the National Bureau of Statistics on January 22, 2021.

The trend of CPI in January is as follows: the price index of the eight categories of commodities experienced “two ups and six downs”; the price of food, tobacco and alcohol increased 1.3%, and that of clothing increased 0.6%, while the price of transportation and communication; other goods and services; education, culture and entertainment; medical care decreased; housing; and daily necessities and services decreased 6.6%, 2.8%, 2.6%, 1.3%, 0.2% and 0.1%, respectively.

The price of foods increased 1.4% year on year, and 4.8% on a monthly basis. Affected by the pandemic, the price of fresh vegetables and eggs increased significantly in January, up 21.3% and 13.3% respectively on a monthly basis.

The price of public transport rose 27.3% month on month due to policy adjustment. According to the Notice [2020] No. 4 on Fare Adjustment of Air-conditioned Buses and Trams in Changchun City, the fare of air-conditioned buses and trams will be adjusted to RMB2 per person/time from RMB1 on January 1, 2021.
