In the past nine months, FAW-VW produced 210,293 cars, up 30.9% year on year, and sold 224,411, a year-on-year increase of 3.9%. FAW-VW has secured a leading position in passenger car market in China due to its unremitting effort in upgrading and optimizing traditional products and services. New energy has also become one of the important development engines for FAW-VW.

To realize its Strategy 2025 as scheduled, FAW-VW has put continuous efforts into making new energy technologies and products a new engine for its development.

The development of new energy vehicles is the strategic direction of the country. Since the Ten Cities and 1000 Vehicles and Adjustment and Revitalization Planning for Automobile Industry were launched in 2009, new energy strategy for automobile industry has been implemented. China has experienced a process from a demonstrative demonstrator in the field, a popularizer on a national scale to a leader in leading, maintaining and facilitating the development of new energy vehicles, thereby ranking the first for five consecutive years in the world in terms of making and selling new energy vehicles. FAW-VW, as a pioneer in China’s automobile industry, has played an important role in this regard.

To fulfil the goal of development from traditional energy to new energy, FAW-VW has planned a new energy center totaling 9,500 square meters, and built a MEB factory in Foshan, which in turn has laid a solid foundation for the follow-up development of new energy vehicles.

With mature techniques and scientific findings utilized, FAW-VW has launched six new energy models including Magotan PHEV, Tayron PHEV, A6L PHEV, Bora Pure Electric, Golf Pure Electric and Q2L Pure Electric. In the future, FAW-VW will work more on strategic layout and strength accumulation to develop new energy vehicles.

With the development of the times, the value chain in the field of new energy vehicles and demands of customers have also changed.

According to Wang Xuefeng, Manager of FAW-VW’s MEB Platform, the value chain of traditional automobile industry has been extended by new energy vehicles to the upstream battery and intelligent technology and the downstream retailing, customer lifespan service and battery recycling and other businesses.

FAW-VW has always been paying close attention to the evolution of new energy market, and has conducted a research analysis on market and manufacturers to make sure that its research and development of electrical architecture can always go upward from one generation to another in the exploration of new energy technology and future automotive development.

“The degree of customers’ acceptance and cognition of new energy vehicles has improved,” said Wang Xuefeng, adding, “Low cost and eco-friendliness have made new energy vehicles more popular. However, inconvenient charging, short driving range and long charging time are the pain points urgently needed to be solved by manufacturers.” FAW-VW is now striving for better battery performance and reduction of “mileage anxiety” so as to improve the users’ sense of security.

With the national strategic planning and deployment for the development of new energy vehicles, further improving the sales of new energy vehicles will play an important role in improving the retail and market share of FAW Volkswagen.

In addition to the models launched to market, FAW-VW has ushered in a new electric vehicle platform MEB from Volkswagen Group. The platform is said to be able to provide relatively safe and stable performance for batteries, making it part of FAW-VW’s seeking advancement in the development and planning of new energy vehicles in the future.

In the first half of 2021, FAW-VW will launch the first home-made MEB model in market, followed by other new energy products and technologies for saloon and SUV on the basis of the current MEB platform.
