The No. 1 Hospital of Jilin University, formerly known as the first Clinical College of Bethune Medical University, is now attached to Jilin University.

Founded in 1949, it was then called the Chinese PLA No. 1 Military Medical University, followed by the change of its names known as Medicine College of Changchun Medical University, No. 1 Clinical College of Jilin Medical University, and No. 1 Clinical College of Bethune Medical University. In 2000, it was merged into Jilin University, with its name officially changed to the No. 1 Hospital of Jilin University. Over the past 60 years, it has developed into a comprehensive research-oriented clinical college and teaching hospital, which has full disciplinary categories, highly competitive faculties, superb medical techniques, advanced diagnosis and treatment equipment and powerful research strength. The hospital has 50 clinical departments, 7 medical and technical departments and one research center.

Eight of its disciplines have been listed as province-level key disciplines including internal medicine, chirurgery, oncology, clinical laboratory diagnostics, pediatrics, gynemetrics, ophthalmology and emergency medicine. Meanwhile, it has opened several province-level research institutes for liver diseases, cerebrovascular diseases, senile diseases, child diseases, otorhinolaryngology-head and neck surgery, male urology, hematologic diseases, laparoscopic surgery and orthopaedic trauma. It undertakes teaching tasks for students majoring in clinical medicine (five years, seven years), preventive medicine, and for those studying in nursing college and adult education college. It has 16 disciplinary programs for master degrees, 6 for doctor degrees, a station for post-doctoral clinical medicine research, and professional academic degree authorization programs for clinical medicine. The No. 1 Hospital of Jilin University has carried out multichannel exchange and cooperation programs in many fields. It has established friendly and cooperative relations with many medical institutions in such countries and regions as Canada, ROK and America, and meanwhile invited noted experts at home and abroad to come for lecturers, work and talks on cooperative projects in order to promote its development.
