Chinese automobile brand Hongqi unveiled a high-end battery electric sedan with a maximum range of 820 kilometers to the global market on March 20. The vehicle is equipped with low-temperature battery cells to tackle the range anxiety faced by electric vehicles in winter, aiming to seize a larger share of the global new energy vehicle market.
Known as the Hongqi EH7, this model features the latest low-temperature battery cells developed by FAW, achieving "zero attenuation of battery performance in low temperatures". Additionally, the vehicle is equipped with an intelligent thermal management system, reducing energy consumption by 20%. The energy capacity of the battery at -10°C experiences almost no attenuation, with a battery utilization rate of 90% at -20°C. It offers 26 intelligent adjustment modes to ensure efficient energy utilization.
Regarding fast charging, the Hongqi EH7 can achieve a range of 215 kilometers after just 5 minutes of charging. Under normal conditions, it takes only 20 minutes to charge from 10% to 80%, and under low-temperature conditions of -20°C, it takes only 48 minutes for the same charge.
The limited range and reduced power of electric vehicles in winter in cold regions have been persistent challenges hindering their widespread adoption in northern areas. FAW Group, as an automobile company headquartered in the high-cold region, has been focusing on developing key core technologies to overcome low-temperature challenges for electric vehicles in recent years, and has applied a series of achievements to the latest models of brands like Hongqi.
In 2023, the cumulative sales of FAW Hongqi reached 370,000 vehicles, with a year-on-year increase of 29.5%. Among them, the retail sales of Hongqi's new energy vehicles exceeded 85,000 vehicles, with a year-on-year increase of 135%. The annual sales of Hongqi H5 and Hongqi HS5 models both exceeded 100,000 vehicles, with a year-on-year increase of 40%.
