Recently, the first set of magnesium alloy seat frame assemblies independently developed by FAW Group and produced using semi-solid injection molding has been completed and passed multiple seat function adjustment tests. The product will soon enter the stage of strength and durability bench testing as well as full vehicle testing. This achievement marks another key breakthrough made by the Hongqi brand in the field of magnesium alloy lightweight technology, bolstering the application of lightweight magnesium alloy products in automobiles.

Technology Fosters an Integrated Innovation System for Materials, Processes, and Structures

Centering on the goals of producing lightweight and high-performance auto parts, the Hongqi R&D team innovated across three dimensions—materials, processes, and structures.

In terms of materials and processes, the team overcame challenges in the refinement of specialized magnesium alloy slurry and the virtual simulation and calibration of process parameters, adding to the mechanical properties and internal quality of the products;

With regard to structures, while ensuring the seat's eight-way adjustment functionality, the team integrated 19 parts into just four magnesium alloy components, thereby streamlining assembly and boosting efficiency.

Compared with conventional stamped steel solutions, the new assembly reduces weight by 1.35kg per set, with magnesium alloy claiming 26% of the weight decrease.

Collaborative R&D Accelerates the Transition from Development to Production

Guided by the goal of "rapid development and rapid application", the team has worked to move innovative technologies from the laboratory to the production line and transform technical breakthroughs into tangible product advantages. The magnesium alloy seat frame is based on Hongqi's modular seat frame platform and is compatible with multiple Hongqi models under mass production and development. The frame assembly and surrounding seat components are designed to be interchangeable with existing steel ones, minimizing tooling change costs arising from the adoption of new technologies.

The successful assembly marks an important milestone in Hongqi's roadmap for magnesium alloy applications. Embracing the culture of R&D innovation characterized by "study, equality, inclusiveness, pragmatism, and achievement", FAW Group will continue to tackle challenges in magnesium alloy applications, expand their use scenarios, and further improve vehicle lightweighting performance, so as to lay a solid technical foundation for efficient, long-range mobility for users.
