Changchun Film Studio
Changchun Film Studio, the first of its kind in China, is the nation’s cradle of film industry. It has created seven “firsts” in the history of new China’s film industry. The studio is also known as the birthplace of over 900 feature films and 1,000 budded ones. A wealth of its outstanding products including The Five Golden Flowers, Shangganling Campaign, The Heroic Sons and Daughters, and Sister Liu the Third are part of growth of several generations.
The studio started reforming in 1998 and finished in 2005. In 2008, the studio decided to bring into play its advantages in making countryside films. Its application for the establishment of a base for making the first countryside films was approved in July 2008. In the meantime time, the fund worth RMB100 million for the development of countryside films was established. In recent years, the base have received more than 1,300 screenplays and produced 130 films, including The Cow, Bright Sunshine and Faithful Brothers, which are highly praised by both insiders and the public. On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the 1911 Revolution, or called Xinhai Revolution, Changchun Film Studio, in collaboration with all parties involved, invested RMB150 million in the production of the film Xinhai Revolution which, with eight nominations, surpassed Aftershock (Tangshan Earthquake) and Love is Not Blind winning seven each.
The construction of Changchun Movie Wonderland, a world-class movie theme park, covering 30 hectares and invested with RMB1.5 billion, started in April 2003, and went operational in May 2005. Over the past seven years, the wonderland has received over six million visitors from all around the world. It has not only become a major pillar for the growth of Changchun Film Group but also served as a propeller for the development of filmmaking. For industrial restructuring and upgrading, Changchun Film Studio has started four projects, namely, to invest RMB350 million in reconstructing the studio into an exhibition center for the achievements of the studio and new China in film industry, to invest RMB370 million on a world top-notch entertaining project in the second-phase construction of Changchun Movie Wonderland, to open the studio’s theaters in Jilin Province and other places of the nation (to start building three five-star theaters in 212), and to popularize the studio’s brands, achieve cross-regional development and create a comprehensive world-class film cluster.
Changchun Film Studio has been awarded by the four ministries and commissions with such honorary titles as “National Outstanding Enterprise for Cultural System Reform” and “National Advanced Enterprise for Cultural System Reform”. And its achievements have been reported by central mainstream media including People’s Daily, Xinhua News Agency, CCTV, etc.
