(1) Agriculture

Attaching importance to agricultural development is the fundamental plan of the country. In 2024, Changchun firmly shouldered the responsibility of ensuring national food security. Focusing on high-quality development, the city thoroughly implemented the food crop production strategy based on farmland management and the application of technology. Agricultural production across the city maintained steady progress with improved quality and efficiency, making significant contributions to food security for the province and even the whole country. Throughout the year, the added value of agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry, and fishery reached RMB 52.645 billion, an increase of 4.5% over the previous year.

(2) Industry

In 2024, Changchun's industrial economy maintained steady growth amid complex and volatile domestic and international environments. Its industrial added value reached RMB 221.141 billion, up 4.3% year-on-year, providing strong support for the city's high-quality economic development.

As an old industrial base, Changchun boasts a well-established industrial system covering automobile manufacturing, equipment manufacturing, new chemical materials, electronic information, and other fields, forming a diversified and comprehensive industrial structure.

(3) Commerce and Trade Services (Convention & Exhibition Economy)

Changchun's convention and exhibition industry began in the 1990s. After 30 years of development, the city now has four exhibition venues (Northeast Asia International Expo Center, Changchun International Conference & Exhibition Center, Changchun Modern Agricultural Park, and Eurasia Shopping Mall), with a total available exhibition area of 500,000 square meters (185,000 square meters indoors and 325,000 square meters outdoors). There are over 100 enterprises engaged in convention and exhibition activities, hosting around 100 events annually, which cover industry, agriculture, cultural tourism, education, commerce and trade, healthcare, and more.

The China-Northeast Asia Expo was first held in 2005. In 2012, with the approval of the State Council, the China Jilin · Northeast Asia Investment and Trade Expo was renamed and upgraded to the China-Northeast Asia Expo. Since 2014, it has been held biennially instead of annually. As of October 2025, 15 sessions have been successfully held.

The Changchun International Optoelectronic Expo (CCIOE) is the only comprehensive and professional optoelectronic information exhibition in Northeast China. The 2025 CCIOE attracted more than 850 domestic and international enterprises, with overseas exhibitors accounting for 66.1%, demonstrating a continuously improving level of internationalization and specialization. Alongside the expo, the highly internationally influential Light Conference was held, during which the Wang Daheng Optical Award, known as the "Oscars" of China's optics community, was presented. The expo serves as an important platform for showcasing the industrial strength of "Changchun Optics Valley" and promoting exchanges and commercialization of optoelectronic technologies.

The Changchun International Auto Expo, first held in 1999, has become an annual event since 2010. It is one of China's renowned auto industry events, often regarded as the trendsetter of the "Automobile City". The 21st Changchun International Auto Expo was held in July 2024, fully showcasing the latest achievements in electrification, intelligence, and connectivity in the auto industry, with new energy vehicles taking center stage. As a pillar industry of Changchun, the expo has effectively boosted local consumption and reinforced the city's important position in China's auto industry landscape.

The China Changchun International Agriculture and Food Expo (Trade), first held in 2000, takes place annually (postponed in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic). The 23rd expo was held in August 2024. With a focus on showcasing modern agricultural technology, intelligent agricultural equipment, and high-quality green agricultural products, the event includes various agricultural technology promotion and production-sales matching activities. It has become an important platform for ensuring national food security and promoting agricultural modernization and rural revitalization.

The Changchun Film Festival · China, founded in 1992, is the first film festival named after a city in the PRC, and its awards are known as the Golden Deer Awards. Since 2021, its schedule has changed from biennial to annual. The 20th Changchun Film Festival took place in August 2025. The year 2025 marks both the 120th anniversary of Chinese cinema and the 80th anniversary of the founding of Changchun Film Studio. The festival featured a special "Tribute to the Cradle" section, including the Outstanding Changchun Film Studio Productions Exhibition and the "2025 Changchun Film Night" symphony concert.

PLA Air Force Aviation Open-day Event and Changchun Air Show. From 2011 to 2018, seven PLA Air Force Aviation Open-day Events were held. The first Changchun Air Show was held in 2019, concurrently with the "Aviation Open-day Event Celebrating the 70th Anniversary of the PLA Air Force". Since then, the two have been merged and held biennially (postponed in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic). It is the only air show in China exclusively hosted by the Air Force. The 4th Changchun Air Show was held in September 2025 at the Changchun International Aviation Expo City. It was the largest, most diverse, and most innovative edition since 2019, attracting 996,000 visitors, far exceeding the pre-event expectation of 800,000.

The Changchun Ice and Snow Festival, first launched in 1998, has been held annually for 28 sessions. In 2024, Changchun was awarded the title of one of the "Top 10 Ice and Snow Tourism Cities" in China, and the Changchun Ice and Snow Festival was named "Top 10 Ice and Snow Tourism Festivals". In 2003, the city co-hosted Vasaloppet China with Nordic Ways (Sweden), making it an important part of the Ice and Snow Festival. Having been held for 23 sessions, the event has received accolades such as National Winter Sports Tourism High-Quality Event and China's Top 10 Ice and Snow Tourism Festivals.

(4) Industrial Transformation and Upgrading

Changchun focuses on building a modern industrial system featuring the "transformation of three traditional industries, advancement of four emerging industries, and deployment of seven future industries". It includes promoting the transformation of the city's three traditional advantageous industries—automobiles, equipment manufacturing, and agricultural product processing—toward high-end, intelligent, and cluster-based development, accelerating the large-scale development of four emerging industries (i.e., biomedicine and life health, optoelectronic information, green energy, and modern cultural tourism and the convention and exhibition industry), and accelerating the deployment of seven market segments (i.e., hydrogen energy and new energy storage, aerospace and applications, semiconductors, new materials, high-end medical equipment and innovative drugs, film & television cultural creativity, and digital economy).

(5) Opening-up and Cooperation

Changchun is an important node city on the northern route of the "Belt and Road" Initiative, also known as the China-Mongolia-Russia Economic Corridor (CMREC). The city now hosts several opening-up platforms, including Changchun New Area, the China-ROK (Changchun) International Cooperation Demonstration Zone, the Xinglong Comprehensive Bonded Zone, and the Airport Economic Demonstration Zone. It has been designated as a national logistics hub for production services and land-port functions, as well as a city receiving support for bolstering industrial and supply chains in the national integrated freight hub system. The city has established trade relations with nearly 180 countries and regions, and its international freight train services, like the "Changchun-Manzhouli-Europe" and "Changchun-Hunchun-Europe" routes, operate on a regular basis. The China-Europe Railway Express in Changchun has been in operation since 2015.

In 2024, Changchun unswervingly advanced high-level opening-up, actively integrated into national strategies such as the "Belt and Road" Initiative, and achieved solid progress in foreign trade, foreign investment, international tourism, and the construction of opening-up platforms. As a result, the city's opening-up level and quality were comprehensively elevated.

In terms of foreign trade, Changchun withstood global economic and trade pressures and achieved steady progress. The total value of imports and exports reached RMB 127.506 billion, up 4.0% year-on-year, indicating balanced growth in both exports and imports. To promote sustainable development of foreign trade, the city actively fostered new drivers of growth. On the one hand, 132 new enterprises with actual import-export performance were added, strengthening the foundation of market entities; on the other hand, innovative business models were vigorously developed, including accelerating the construction of the cross-border e-commerce comprehensive pilot zone and actively exploring new models such as "border trade + e-commerce" and "border trade + tourism", injecting new vitality into traditional trade.

In terms of foreign investment utilization, Changchun demonstrated strong international attractiveness. The actual use of foreign capital reached USD 345 million for the year, maintaining a steady growth rate of 3.5%. This achievement resulted from Changchun's continuous efforts to build the "Investment in Jilin" brand, improve mechanisms for promoting and serving foreign investment, and create a stable, transparent, and predictable business environment for foreign enterprises investing and operating in the city.

International tourism and people-to-people exchanges became a vibrant highlight of Changchun's opening-up. The city received over 172 million domestic and international visitors throughout the year, representing a year-on-year increase of 17%. Notably, the inbound tourist market showed strong recovery, with 202,400 inbound tourists received, marking a significant increase of 25.2%. The total tourist spending reached RMB 302.61 billion, up 25.5%, and tourism foreign exchange earnings totaled USD 70.781 million, up 24.9%. The thriving convention and exhibition tourism industry has effectively enhanced Changchun's international visibility and city influence.
