To commemorate the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and South Korea, "Sensing China • South Korea Trip - Jilin Culture Week” co-hosted by the Information Office of the State Council of China and the People's Government of Jilin Province and Chinese Embassy to South Korea and co-presented by the Information Office of Jilin Provincial Government, the Foreign Affairs Office of Jilin Province and China and South Korea Overseas Research and Training Institute was opened on September 13 in Seoul, South Korea. More than 200 Chinese and foreign guests, including officials of Chinese Embassy to South Korea, officials of Seoul, cultural, news and art celebrities of South Korea, overseas Chinese representatives, university student representatives, foreign diplomats stationed in South Korea, and local mainstream media reporters, attended the opening ceremony .

Provincial leader and head of the provincial cultural delegation Xun Fengqi, Chinese Ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to South Korea Zhang Xinsen, Vice Mayor of Seoul Jin Jiongzhu, South Korea former Prime Minister Lee Soo-Sung, former Deputy Prime Minister Wu Ming, and the relevant leaders of the Information Office of the State Council of China attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech respectively.

In his speech, Xun Fengqi pointed out that Jilin Province is located in the center of Northeast Asia, and has a unique geographical advantage to carry out foreign trade and economic and cultural exchanges and cooperation with Northeast Asian countries. Jilin Province has held 8 sessions of China Jilin Northeast Asia Investment and Trade Expo, held three consecutive sessions of China Changchun Northeast Asia Culture and Art Week, and held Jilin Culture Week in Northeast Asian countries year by year. Jilin Province and South Korea have geographical proximity, cultural similarity, good foundation and great potential for exchanges and cooperation. The province has established relationship of friendly exchanges with South Korea’s Gangwon-do, Chungcheongnam-do and Chungcheongbuk-do, and has carried out multi-field and multi-level pragmatic cooperation. We would like to take this Jilin Culture Week as an opportunity to further promote the in-depth development of the friendship between the two countries, and continue to deepen cultural exchanges and cooperation between Jilin Province and South Korea. We believe that, through the "2012 Sensing China • South Korea Trip - Jilin Culture Week" activity, South Korean people will have a more profound perception of a fresh Jilin, a Jilin, a developing Jilin, a prosperous Jilin and a wonderful Jilin; will have a better understanding of the charming culture and art of Jilin and the culture industry containing infinite opportunities; and will further enhance the mutual understanding and traditional friendship of the two peoples.
Zhang Xinsen said in his speech that China and South Korea have are geographically close, popularly lined and culturally connected, and have a long history of traditional friendship. This year is the 20 anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the “China-South Korea Friendly Exchange Year". In May, the two countries launched the FTA negotiations; the Chinese government continues to implement the Northeast revitalization strategy and the Changchun-Jilin-Tumen pilot area for opening up strategy, but also has approved the establishment of “Tumen River Region (Hunchun) International Cooperation Demonstration Zone”. All these have provided a rare opportunity for exchanges and cooperation between Jilin Province and South Korea. We believe that, through this "Sensing China • South Korea Trip - Jilin Culture Week" activity, South Korean people will learn more about Jilin and China, and that Jilin Province and South Korea will be able to further deepen communication, enhance mutual friendship, broaden the channels of cooperation and achieve mutual benefit and win-win situation.
Jin Jiongzhu said in his speech that the cooperative relationship between South Korea and China's three northeastern provinces has become an important part of the South Korea-China friendly relations. Especially Jilin Province, which has a long-term economic and cultural exchanges and cooperation relationship with South Korea, is the most familiar to South Korean people. The sustained and rapid economic development in Jilin Province has brought more development opportunities to South Korean enterprises. He wished that the “2012 Sensing China • South Korea Trip - Jilin Culture Week” activity can be a great success, and play an active role in promoting cultural exchanges and cooperation between Seoul and Jilin.
At the opening ceremony, the Information Office of the State Council of China presented to the Seoul Metropolitan Government Library 1000 Jilin Province-published books and a number of film and television products in Korean, English and Chinese, involving China's national conditions, culture, economy, society, ecology, tourism, Chinese learning and other fields. The "Charming China • Colorful Jilin" photo exhibition, the China-South Korea Fair for Cultural Enterprises, China-South Korea Media Senior Forum, as well as Jilin folk artists’ paper cutting, knife painting, calligraphy and other showcase performances, Book Fair and other activities
will also be held on that day.
This Jilin Culture Week will be held from September 13 to 17. During the Culture Week, the China Jilin film screening, China-South Korea artists exchange performances and other activities will be held.
"Sensing China" is a well-known brand activity organized by the Information Office of the State Council. Last year, the Information Office of the State Council and the People's Government of Jilin Province successfully held the "Sensing China • Russia Trip - Jilin Culture Week" activity in Russia, and will organize the "Sensing China • Jilin Culture Week" activity in other Northeast Asian countries year by year.
