The Fourth Intergovernmental Meeting of UNESCO for Nonmaterial Cultural Heritage Protection opened on September 30, 2009.

The Chinese Music & Dance of Korean Farmers was listed as an intangible nonmaterial cultural heritage by the UNESCO. The Chinese Music and Dance of Korean Farmers, after the Capital Cities and Tombs of the Ancient Koguryo Kingdom, became the third winning the award. The music and the dance is the only one among the northeastern three provinces and other places of China that was listed as an intangible nonmaterial cultural heritage of dance by the UNESCO. It is of great significance to the further promotion of Jilin Province’s recognition, ethnic solidarity and prosperity of cultural undertakings. It will also become a model role for other minorities in Jilin Province to rescue and protect their culture.
