On August 1, 1989, the first Audi 100 car was produced in Changchun. Since then, Audi cars have served as a tight bond between Changchun, China and Ingolstadt, Germany.

On June 18, 2023, Ingolstadt welcomed a delegation led by Changchun's Vice Mayor Zhao Xian, including representatives from the Foreign Affairs Office of the People's Government of Changchun Municipality, Changchun Municipality Sports Administration, Changchun Development and Reform Commission, universities, and entrepreneurs.

The delegation was received by Mr. Hannes Schleeh, General Manager of the Bavarian China Center, and Ms. Dong Changhua, Head of the China Program. Mr. Schleeh extended a warm welcome to the delegation from Changchun, and in his speech, Mr. Schleeh still remembered his visit in Changchun in 2019 and hoped that this time the visit would deepen mutual understanding and further promote exchanges and cooperation between the two cities in various aspects.

The representative from the tourist office of Ingolstadt introduced Ingolstadt to the delegation, which is not only the headquarters of the German automobile company Audi, but also the birthplace of Bavarian institutions of higher education, where the first Bavarian university (Universit?t Ingolstadt) was founded. The university first set up four classical faculties of theology, law, medicine and philosophy. The famous Ingolstadt University of Applied Sciences (THI), founded in 1994 in the city of Inn, now has the colleges of electrical engineering and information science, machine manufacturing, and economics. The school ranks among the top 10 of its kind in Germany for business economics, economic engineering, and information science.

The delegation then made an exchange visit to the Ingolstadt football club (FCI 04). The delegation was warmly received by Mr. Manuel Sch?fer, head of FCI 04 strategic international relations, and Mr. Dirk Behnke, president of the football school. The head of the delegation, Vice Mayor Zhao Xian, introduced Changchun as not only a city of cars and scientific research, but also a city of sports, complete with facilities for basketball, football and ice hockey, etc., and that the football in particular will be popularized to a greater extent in the city. FCI 04 head Sch?fer also introduced the cooperation on football between the club and Changchun before the COVID-19 pandemic, emphasized that the club has deep feelings towards Changchun, and hoped that in the future, both sides can form more in-depth partnerships with each other in terms of football, especially in football education, youth training, football referees, professional managers, etc.

It is well known that Audi's New Energy Vehicle project is located in Changchun. The first model will go into production in Changchun in 2024. Through this project many Audi experts and their families fromIngolstadt will be living in Changchun. As Mr. Hannes Schleeh said, the automobile industry in both cities not only boosts mutual benefits in economic terms, but also further exchanges between the people of both cities in different cultures, thus pushing the exchange and cooperation between the two cities to a new level.

Back on December 1, 2019, Sepp Missbeck, mayor of Ingolstadt, led an economic and trade delegation to visit Changchun, and the delegation had exchanged opinions with the Changchun Municipal People's Government in terms of economy, trade and culture.

It is believed that through reciprocal visits, the two cities have had a better understanding of each other and created more opportunities for future cooperation in various fields.
