In 2022, the province kept developing the beef cattle industry, coordinated forces, consolidated responsibilities, strengthened measures, and achieved remarkable results in "straw to meat" and ten-million beef cattle projects.

The province has achieved a new record in beef cattle breeding. In 2022, the number of beef cattle raised in the province increased 12.4 percent year on year to 6.526 million. Among them, the number of beef cattle on hand surged 15.4 percent year on year to 3.903 million, and that of beef cattle sold jumped 8.2 percent year on year to 2.623 million. The growth rate of beef cattle breeding in the province maintained a rapid trend, 10.7 percentage points and 9.6 percentage points higher than that of Liaoning and Heilongjiang, respectively, ranking the top in the country.

The province has made new breakthroughs in beef cattle production financing and insurance. Last year, the balance of beef cattle loans grew 100.41 percent year on year to 24.545 billion yuan, including 6.524 billion yuan of live beef cattle mortgage loans with a year-on-year increase of 196.01 percent. 1,157,800 head of beef cattle in the province were insured, an increase of 547,800 over the beginning of the year, or 89.8 percent. The number of beef cattle under insurance accounted for 29.66 percent of the total number on hand, 13.66 percentage points higher than the beginning of the year.

The province has greatly improved the utilization rate of straw. 16.42 million tons of straw were used to produce feed, accounting for 41.05 percent of the total, up 9.7 percentage points year on year.

The province has continued to improve the quality and efficiency of major beef cattle projects. Throughout the year, 209 major projects (including new slaughtering and processing projects) were planned, 175 more than before the implementation of the ten-million beef cattle project.

The number of beef cattle raised in industrial parks has been significantly increased. 10 beef cattle industrial parks in the province raised 3.275 million head, up 15.8 percent year on year. Among them, 2.003 million were on hand and 1.272 million were sold, up 17.8 percent and 39 percent year on year, respectively.

The building of industrial clusters in the central, eastern and western parts of the province has been smoothly progressing. Steady progress has been made in the construction of 32 projects in 19 counties (county-level cities, districts) to support the development of beef cattle industrial clusters.

The brand awareness of "Jilin beef cattle" has been enhanced. At present, there are 11 local beef cattle brands recognized at or above the provincial level, as well as 15 independent brands of beef cattle products in the province. New progress has been made in the establishment of the "Jilin beef" food brand.
