On June 27, the National Regional Medical Center Beijing Anzhen Hospital, Capital Medical University (Jilin) officially began operations. As a strategic move to channel premier national medical resources into Northeast China, the hospital fills a critical gap in advanced cardiovascular care across the region. Patients with heart conditions can now receive top-tier, standardized treatment on par with that offered at Beijing Anzhen Hospital without having to travel outside the Northeast.

Covering 73,000 square meters with a floor area of 178,000 square meters, the hospital represents an investment of nearly 2 billion yuan and is designed to accommodate 1,000 beds. It operates as a public tertiary general hospital integrating medical care, emergency services, education, and research. As one of the fifth batch of National Regional Medical Center projects, it was developed in partnership between Beijing Anzhen Hospital (the lead institution) and Changchun Central Hospital (the local host). Since its approval in July 2023, the project has moved forward with remarkable speed: administrative approvals, groundbreaking, and team formation were completed concurrently; in 2024, expert teams from Beijing moved into the interim campus and introduced a dual-director management system, rolling out 27 new technologies 10 reaching nationally advanced levels and 6 filling provincial gaps; in 2025, the two main buildings were topped out ahead of schedule; and in 2026, the facility was completed 10 months early, entered trial operations 6 months ahead of time, and officially opened after a two-month commissioning period.

The hospital will introduce smart and patient-friendly services, pioneering a "care first, pay later" credit-based model. It supports point-of-care settlement and bedside admission/discharge procedures, with a one-stop service center designed to streamline the patient journey. Equipped with state-of-the-art diagnostic and therapeutic devices and backed by Beijing Anzhen Hospital's established clinical protocols, the new facility is set to become a robust bulwark against cardiovascular emergencies across Northeast China.

Dr. Zhang Hongjia, President of Beijing Anzhen Hospital, highlighted that the opening of the Jilin facility marks a milestone in elevating healthcare quality in the Northeast and bringing tangible benefits to local communities. With over four decades of expertise in cardiovascular medicine, Beijing Anzhen Hospital has achieved exceptional outcomes including zero mortality in radiofrequency ablation and a coronary intervention mortality rate as low as 0.02%. "Our mission is to embed standardized, nationally recognized cardiovascular care in Jilin and extend it throughout the region that has always been the driving force behind this collaboration," he said.

Tong Zhaoxia, Deputy Party Secretary and Executive President of the Jilin hospital, noted that the new institution fully adopts Beijing Anzhen Hospital's cutting-edge clinical practices and advanced management philosophies. "We are advancing a 'cardiovascular plus' care model to bring high-quality care closer to grassroots communities and sustain the region's healthcare transformation," she explained. During the development phase, the two partner hospitals defined a complementary, group-based strategy: the Jilin Anzhen hospital focuses on a "specialized core with general support" approach, concentrating on critical cardiovascular care, while Changchun Central Hospital emphasizes a "comprehensive core with specialized strengths" model, excelling in common diseases, geriatrics, and rehabilitation together forming an integrated care network.

To mark the opening, the hospital launched a seven-day public health campaign featuring free consultations by multidisciplinary experts from Beijing, giving local residents direct access to exceptional care close to home.

As a key vehicle for expanding the reach of high-quality national medical resources, Beijing Anzhen Hospital, Capital Medical University (Jilin) will continue to strengthen its cardiovascular specialty, cultivate local talent, and enhance patient-centered services ensuring that national-level expertise safeguards the health of communities across Northeast China.
