Changchun's Airport Achieves Breakthrough with Live Aquatic Product Export: First Batch of Russian King Crabs Arrives in Hong Kong
On December 16, a batch of live Russian king crabs weighing 650 kilograms entered China via Hunchun Port. They were then successfully airlifted out of Changchun Longjia International Airport aboard Hainan Airlines' newly launched flight from Changchun to Hong Kong, arriving in Hong Kong on the same day. This marks the first successful bonded transit export of live aquatic products through the city's airport, representing a historic breakthrough.

Originating from Russia, this batch of king crabs completed import clearance at the Hunchun Highway Port and was then transported to Longjia International Airport via domestic logistics for export. To ensure the efficient export of these live aquatic products, for which timely customs clearance is critical, the Changchun Municipal Bureau of Commerce coordinated with customs, the airport, and airlines to provide end-to-end guidance for the exporter. This streamlined the entire process, from export declaration and quarantine inspections to aircraft loading and departure, effectively guaranteeing both transport efficiency and the survival rate for the live crabs.

The successful completion of this inaugural operation marks a significant milestone in expanding capabilities and diversifying its services of the city's airport. It also serves as a practical test of the port's customs efficiency, operational capacity, and multimodal transport coordination. This fully demonstrates the notable progress Changchun has made in facilitating cross-border trade and opens a new international air logistics channel for high-value-added, time-sensitive fresh products.

This successful export to Hong Kong provides a new pathway for high-quality aquatic and agricultural products from the local and surrounding regions to access high-end consumer markets. Seizing this opportunity, Changchun will further strengthen its cooperation with Hunchun and explore the establishment of a direct connection between Changchun Xinglong Comprehensive Bonded Zone and Hunchun Comprehensive Bonded Zone. The city will also endeavor to consolidate and expand its presence in the Hong Kong market, and further extend its reach to broader international markets, including Southeast Asia.

With the steady growth in future shipment volumes, there is potential to launch chartered or scheduled cargo flights to relevant regions. This aims to significantly enhance Changchun's international air cargo capacity, build a more comprehensive logistics system for opening-up, and ultimately inject new momentum into the high-quality development of the region's export-oriented economy.
