Recently, FAW Group, Volkswagen Group China, and the Administrative Committee of the Chengdu Economic and Technological Development Zone signed the Cooperation Agreement on Jetta Business Development in Chengdu.

This agreement marks the preparation for establishing a new company for the Jetta brand, with the aim of jointly developing Jetta into a leading enterprise in Sichuan's automobile sector.

"This signing is a testament to FAW Group's proactive response to China's high-level opening-up policy and its commitment to fully implementing the 'Belt and Road' Initiative and the Western China Development Strategy," said Qiu Xiandong, Party Secretary and Chairman of FAW Group. "FAW-Volkswagen will leverage the strengths of both Chinese and German partners to enhance localized operational efficiency and bolster independent research and innovation capabilities, establishing a new hub for joint venture technological advancements. This initiative will inject new vitality into the high-quality transformation and development of Sichuan's automotive industry, as well as to Jetta's ambition to 'deepen its local roots and expand globally'."Building on its established production base in Chengdu, the new Jetta company will fully consolidate Jetta's existing resources. It will leverage China's local R&D capabilities and mature supply chain network, and gain greater autonomy in decision-making and operational flexibility. This will enable faster market response and deeper localized integration, effectively integrating the production and sales channels. The result will be a more customer-centered mobility experience, tailored to demand from product innovation to market services.

"To date, the iconic Jetta models have facilitated convenient personal transportation for over five million Chinese customers," said Ralf Brandstätter, Chairman and CEO of Volkswagen Group China. "Upholding the 'In China, for China' strategy, we are poised to continue Jetta's legacy of success in the era of electric, intelligent, and connected vehicles. Electrifying the Jetta brand will allow us to tap into the fast-growing entry-level new energy vehicle market and cater to a broader customer base. This will also support the Group's comprehensive coverage across all major NEV segments. The deepened cooperation reaffirms our commitment to deepen our roots in the Chinese market and achieving mutual benefits with local partners such as FAW and the city of Chengdu."

It is reported that Jetta plans to launch five new products by 2028, including four new energy models. The first model is scheduled to be launched in 2026, aiming to achieve its strategic goal of a sales leap.
