Trial Production of Hong Qi’s Super High-performance Engine Conclude with Success

The trial production of an 8-cylinder, turbocharged direct-injection engine (V8TD) which was independently designed by FAW concluded with success at the Trial Production Institute of R&D Headquarters of FAW. V8TD, a strategic source of power for Hong Qi’s top-end vehicles, is comprehensively upgraded and built on the platform of V8, the only of its kind in China, with a maximum net power of 485kW and a maximum torque of 850 Newton meters. Compared with that of a predecessor, V8TD’s power performance has increased 73.2% to the leading level of its counterparts around the world, thereby having set a new benchmark for independently developed, high-performance engines. 

Insiders say in the course of research and development of V8TD, the research and development team of FAW made innovative breakthroughs in nine key technologies including high performance of combustion and “HOT-V” and handled a list of technical problems including design of a high-performance system of combustion, a cross-platform modular design, and design of an optimized exterior outlook. At the stage of trial production, all departments involved worked as one and handled such difficulties as short term and heavy task, which in turn led to the success in completing the work from conceptual design to trial production and development of the first prototype within a year, and realizing the fastest speed of trial production of a brand new engine within 110 days.
