Changchun’s Retail Sales of Social Consumer Goods up 4% in Q1

According to the data released by Changchun Municipal Bureau of Commerce, the retail sales of social consumer goods of Changchun City totaled RMB227.32 billion from January to September this year, up 4% year on year, ranking the first in terms of both quantity and growth rate among the nine cities (prefecture) in Jilin Province.  

 

From a regional perspective, the growth rate in rural areas is higher than that in urban areas. From January to September, the retail sales of social consumer goods in urban areas reached RMB210.26 billion, accounting for 92.5% of the total of the city, an increase of 3.9%. The retail sales of social consumer goods in rural areas amounted to RMB17.05 billion, up 4.2% year on year, an increase of 0.3 percentage point from that of the first half of the year, or 0.3 percentage point higher than that of urban areas. 

 

In terms of consumption patterns, revenue of retail sales of commodities is better than that of catering. From January to September, the retail sales of commodities in the city amounted to RMB2011.4 billion, accounting for 88.5% of the total, a year-on-year increase of 4%. The revenue of catering reached RMB26.18 billion, accounting for 11.5% of the total or a year-on-year increase of 3.7%. 

 

In terms of scale in the period from January to September, the retail sales of enterprises above designated size amounted to RMB88.06 billion, accounting for 38.7% of the total, while the retail sales of enterprises below designated size reached RMB139.26 billion, up 7.9% year on year. 

 

In terms of retail sales of different commodities, rigid consumption maintained steady growth, more jewelries were sold, and furniture and sports goods were on the list of best-sellers. Driven by the continuous rise of gold price and the promotion of gold, silver and jewelry products, the retail sales of gold, silver and jewelry products have maintained rapid growth since early this year, with a year-on-year increase of 7.8% from January to September. The performance of furniture, sports and entertainment products was also proved exceptional, up 15.2% and 8.1% respectively, up 8.7 and 8.4 percentage points from that of the same period of last year. 

 

The consumption of such rigid goods as grain, cooking oil, food and clothing, shoes, hats, and knitwear increased steadily among which the retail sales of grain, cooking oil and food increased by 2.8%, an increase of 0.2 percentage point from that of the same period last year, and the retail sales of clothing, shoes, hats, and knitwear increased by 3.3%.
