China-Japan Union Hospital of Jilin University is a Grade-A tertiary general hospital under the administration of the National Health Commission, with 4,500 approved beds. It has four national key clinical specialties and 13 national key clinical specialty construction programs. Neurology is a national key discipline recognized by the Ministry of Education, while Orthopedics and Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery both ranked among the top five in the 2024 Northeast China Specialty Reputation Ranking.

Surgical diagnosis and treatment has long been a traditional strength of the hospital. Historically, it completed China's first mitral valve commissurotomy and Jilin Province's first heart transplant, among other landmark procedures.
