Changguang Boxiang: Global Pioneering Tandem Flying-wing Vertical Takeoff and Landing UAV
On March 8, the reporter visited the R&D Center of Changguang Boxiang, where developers were advancing iterative upgrades of their tandem flying-wing vertical takeoff and landing UAVs. The tandem flying-wing vertical takeoff and landing UAV, originally developed by Changguang Boxiang, stands as a global groundbreaking innovative product. Compared to conventional UAVs, it exhibits outstanding advantages in core performance and promising market prospects.
Changguang Boxiang, formerly known as the UAV Division of Changchun Institute of Optics, Fine Mechanics and Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, was restructured into a scientific and technological innovation-based company in 2021. It is committed to the R&D, production, and sales of UAVs and related services. Its core original product, the tandem flying-wing vertical takeoff and landing UAV, can be used in various industries including electricity, petroleum, forestry, water conservancy, transportation, and geographic information for routing inspection, emergency rescue, aerial surveying and mapping, military and police security, and other special purposes. The company has applied for and obtained over 80 authorized patents and intellectual properties.
"Last November, we moved from Jilin Optoelectronic Industry Incubator to Changchun Intelligent Optics Valley Industrial Park, completed new productivity construction, and achieved an annual production capacity of 3,000 sets of UAVs, with a direct output value of RMB 300 million to 500 million after reaching full production. The overall output value may reach RMB 600 million to 1 billion after integrating UAV mounting equipment," said Liao Dongpo.
Compared to conventional UAVs in the market, Changguang Boxiang's UAVs have substantially improved core performance without changing battery power and enhanced endurance and load capacity by focusing on aerodynamic configuration, flight control algorithms, distributed electric drive, and energy management. They are lightweight and user-friendly and excel in wind resistance, maneuverability, and safety, allowing for interval operations at full speed, thoroughly solving the application bottlenecks in the UAV industry and filling the application gap, while greatly broadening the application field of industrial UAVs and leading the industrial upgrading.
Currently, Changguang Boxiang focuses mainly on innovative R&D of UAV models and continuous deepening of application R&D for more iterative upgrades after determining the models. It has developed and launched three models: TW07 with a takeoff weight of 7 kilograms, TW12 with a takeoff weight of 12 kilograms, and TW25 with a takeoff weight of 25 kilograms. The company is developing TW50 with a takeoff weight of 50 kilograms and TW200 with a takeoff weight of 200 kilograms, which are expected to be finalized and enter the mounting integration and application scenario development process in this year.
