The briefing for China-ROK Free Trade Area (FTA) was organized successfully by Changchun Council for the Promotion of International Trade and KOTRA in Changchun City on May 21, 2021. The effort was meant to help the local foreign trade enterprises make better use of relevant policies of China-ROK FTA and expand imports and exports from and to ROK. More than 30 enterprises and associations including Jilin Import and Export Chamber of Commerce, Changchun Jinyu Sci-Tech Development Co., Ltd., Jilin Zhongdao E-commerce Co., Ltd. and Tencent Office Jilin attended the event. 

Wen Songwen, Vice President of Changchun Council for the Promotion of International Trade, delivered a speech at the briefing, saying, “The China-ROK FTA with the widest coverage and the largest trade volume will bring new opportunities for the enterprises of the two countries. Foreign trade has been being affected by the Covid-19 pandemic since its outbreak, resulting in obstruction of contracts and reduction of orders. There is a number of enterprises in Changchun that are engaged in foreign trade with ROK. However, some are still not familiar with the FTA and the benefits, opportunities and preferential policies it may bring about. Changchun Council for the Promotion of International Trade insists on helping enterprises solve practical problems. We hope all enterprises involved can know more about the FTA, improve the utilization rate of policies, benefit from the preferential measures, reduce losses under and after the epidemic, trigger development vitality, and thus contribute more to the economic development of Changchun City.” 

“China and ROK are important economic and trade partners to each other. The implementation of the FTA between the two countries is expected to play important roles in expanding market, reducing trade costs, deepening industrial value chains and increasing trade sizes,” said the present of KOTRA at the briefing during which the head of KOTRA Changchun introduced the main functions and development direction of Changchun Trade Pavilion and expressed his hope of promoting exchanges among the enterprises of Changchun and ROK and thus promoting the economic development of the two sides. 

Also at the briefing the details of rules of origins and applications of goods of China and ROK as well as the preferential policies for investment attraction and e-commerce of Changchun Xinglong Bonded Area were introduced to provide enterprises references for strategic development and actual businesses. 

The participants indicated that the briefing was of instructive significance for enterprises to making use of international rules to reduce costs and increase benefits and expressed their hope of joining more activities like this in the future. 

The FTA between China and ROK will bring about new opportunities for promoting all-round economic and trade exchanges among the enterprises between Changchun and ROK and thus add new vitality to the development of foreign trade enterprises in Changchun City.
