2025 National Science and Technology Awards Announced: Eight Achievements from Changchun-Based Institutions Honored

On July 8, the 2025 National Science and Technology Awards Conference was held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. At this annual gathering of the national science and technology community, Changchun once again demonstrated its robust capacity for scientific and technological innovation, with a total of 8 achievements winning the National Science and Technology Awards. Of these awards, Changchun-based institutions achieved 4 as leading organizations, and completed another 4 as participants, fully showcasing the city's strength in basic research, technological invention, and scientific and technological progress.


Among the 51 State Natural Science Awards, 58 State Technological Invention Awards, and 149 State Scientific and Technological Progress Awards presented nationwide this year, the 4 valuable achievements led by Changchun-based institutions are as follows.


The project led by the Changchun Institute of Optics, Fine Mechanics and Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences won the First Prize of the 2025 State Technological Invention Award.


Professor Liu Bingbing's team from Jilin University received the Second Prize of the State Natural Science Award for their project "Creation under High-pressure, Bonding Mechanisms, and Physical Properties of New Carbon Materials." Research fellow Zhang Xinbo's team from the Changchun Institute of Applied Chemistry of the Chinese Academy of Sciences won the same award for their project "Performance Breakthroughs in Ultrahigh-Energy-Density Lithium-Air Batteries and the Creation of New Systems."


The project "High-Performance Aluminum Nitride-Based Semiconductor Material Fabrication and Key Technologies for Optoelectronic Chips," developed by Li Dabing's team from the Changchun Institute of Optics, Fine Mechanics and Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, won the Second Prize of the State Technological Invention Award.


Changchun-based institutions also performed remarkably as participants in the award-winning projects.


Jilin University, as a participating institution, won 1 First Prize of the State Scientific and Technological Progress Award and 1 Second Prize of the State Natural Science Award.


The Jilin Academy of Agricultural Sciences, as a participating institution, won 2 Second Prizes of the State Scientific and Technological Progress Award.


The award-winning achievements span multiple frontiers and critical fields, including new carbon materials, new energy batteries, semiconductor optoelectronic chips, and modern agriculture. These honors not only reflect Changchun's profound accumulation in basic research and original innovation but also demonstrate its commitment to addressing major national strategic needs and advancing the development of industrial technology in China.


In recent years, Changchun has continuously strengthened its capacity for fostering scientific and technological innovation. Leveraging its concentration of universities and research institutes, the city has consistently energized researchers and promoted the transition of scientific and technological achievements from "laboratory" to "production line," providing sustained technological momentum for high-quality regional development.


Looking ahead, Changchun will continue to pursue the goal of sci-tech self-reliance and self-strengthening at higher levels, further optimize its innovation ecosystem, increase investment in basic research, support breakthroughs in key core technologies, and promote more "Changchun Intelligent Manufacturing" to the nation and the world, contributing greater Changchun strength to building China into a global sci-tech powerhouse.
