FAW Group recently released its overall production and sales figures for May. It sold over 261,300 vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 7.5%, and produced 245,000 vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 9.3%. Among them, sales of self-owned passenger vehicles reached 46,900 units, a year-on-year increase of 17.2%, while monthly sales of self-owned new energy vehicles exceeded 23,200 units, surging by more than 69.8%. Additionally, sales of joint venture vehicles totaled 193,400 units, securing a leading position in the industry.

Since May, FAW has actively responded to new market trends by driving quality improvement in its self-owned brands, steadily expanding joint venture operations, accelerating its global presence, and deepening diversified partnerships, all of which have enhanced its growth momentum. A series of high-profile product launches, impactful brand activities, and globally popular initiatives have converged into a powerful force, fueling FAW's bold journey toward innovation.
Self-Owned Brands Scale New Heights
FAW's impressive performance in May owes much to the outstanding contributions of its self-owned brands. Among them, Hongqi continued to solidify its presence in the high-end market through strengthened brand marketing efforts.
In May, Hongqi once again partnered with the Changchun Marathon and the Frankfurt International Dragon Boat Friendship Race, fully demonstrating its brand charm and vitality. In terms of model updates, the 2025 Hongqi H9 was officially launched on May 20, garnering widespread attention across the industry. The model features comprehensive upgrades in driving performance, luxury presence, and comfort. Furthermore, it comes standard with 20-inch wheel hubs, run-flat tires, and a "premium lighting package" valued at RMB 6,800, catering to diverse consumer preferences and gaining popularity for its stunning design.
In the fiercely competitive commercial vehicle market, FAW Jiefang has maintained its leading position, securing a 22.4% terminal market share for medium and heavy-duty trucks in China in May. In particular, its new energy heavy-duty trucks made significant strides in products featuring bottom-swapping of battery packs, with orders exceeding 1,000 units.
FAW Jiefang's brand influence in China's commercial vehicle sector continues to grow. At the next-generation heavy-duty truck battery-swapping ecosystem launch event hosted by the China Communications and Transportation Association and CATL, FAW Jiefang signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Times Qiji, under which the two parties will co-develop industry-leading models featuring bottom-swapping of battery packs and explore new business opportunities. In addition, FAW Jiefang and ANE Logistics reached a consensus on cooperating in the application of new energy intelligent commercial vehicles and logistics ecosystem development. On May 27, FAW Jiefang celebrated the delivery of 1,000 new energy vehicles in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region. On May 29, FAW Jiefang's Sichuan branch rolled out its 10,000th vehicle of 2025, demonstrating the remarkable "Jiefang Speed".
Meanwhile, Bestune accelerated its innovation in technology, product offerings, and marketing, achieving 17,407 units in sales for May, a record high for its NEVs. Notably, Bestune Yueyi 03 secured over 5,000 orders in a month, while the global debut of the electric-hybrid SUV Yueyi 07 further enriched the brand's product lineup, offering consumers a more diverse range of choices.
Joint Venture Sector Achieves Stable Growth
As the "barometer" of FAW's joint venture operations, FAW-Volkswagen has focused on intelligent manufacturing since the beginning of this year, achieving a series of breakthroughs. In May, the company sold 128,303 vehicles, with its fuel vehicle market share increasing by 1.5% year-on-year.
Since early May, FAW-Volkswagen has deepened its client ecosystem operations through the 5th "521 Family Carnival". The 11th Employee Family Open Day, held during the event, attracted over 100,000 participants, including employees' families, clients, and partners. Centered on the concept of "family culture", a range of innovative and caring activities showcased the company's breakthroughs in electrification and smart technologies while fostering a deeper emotional connection between the company and its clients.
On May 19, FAW-Volkswagen, in partnership with Huawei Cloud, unveiled China's first "cloud-based" distributed automobile factory at its Foshan branch. By deeply integrating FAW-Volkswagen's business practices with Huawei Cloud's distributed technology, the smart factory network linking FAW-Volkswagen's northern and southern sites officially took shape.
At the 2025 Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Auto Show, FAW Audi made a strong impression with 10 blockbuster models, including Audi A5L (debut model on the brand-new PPC luxury fuel platform), Audi Q7, Audi SQ7, Audi Q8, Audi RS Q8, Audi A8L, and Audi A8L Horch.
FAW Toyota has maintained its positive growth momentum, with sales continuing to rise. In May, it sold 68,127 vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 24%. Following a year-on-year increase of 9.6% in Q1 and a 32% increase in April, the company extended its upward trajectory. In May, it organized a media test drive of the new bZ5. Covering various driving scenarios from Beijing to Jinshanling Aranya, the comprehensive test drive experience enabled media and auto reviewers to appreciate the model's outstanding safety standards. Built on the E-NTGA architecture and equipped with Momenta 5.0 + TSS intelligent driving technology, the model delivers excellent intelligent driver-assistance performance.
Global Expansion Gains Momentum
As FAW Group concentrates its superior resources to expand its market footprint, its influence in overseas markets keeps growing.
Hongqi made a debut at the Poznan Motor Show and the Krakow Film Festival, igniting enthusiasm for Chinese brands in Poland with its "Oriental Luxury" brand positioning. The flagship models, Hongqi HQ9 luxury MPV and Hongqi HS7 SUV, entered the Myanmar market, marking the brand's new journey into Southeast Asia.
The launch of FAW Jiefang's J6P heavy-duty truck in Senegal laid a solid foundation for the brand to continuously expand international markets and deepen international cooperation. At the 2025 World New Energy Vehicle Congress held on May 20, FAW Jiefang had in-depth exchanges with relevant departments from Oman, Qatar, the UAE, and other countries on hydrogen energy application cooperation, overseas investment layout, autonomous driving regulation formulation, etc. It also signed orders totaling nearly 10,000 Jiefang trucks with top dealers and major clients in Saudi Arabia and other markets, demonstrating the tangible results of FAW Jiefang's "SPRINT2030" internationalization strategy.
Upholding its commitment to high-quality development, FAW Group is accelerating its open development to foster shared prosperity across the industrial ecosystem. In May this year, it made significant moves by first signing a strategic cooperation agreement with Tsinghua Unigroup to build an industry benchmark for "chip + automobile" collaboration, and then partnering with COFCO to develop shared platforms in logistics, transportation, and sales channels, aiming to promote high-quality development for both parties.
