The battery production project of FAW and BYD was kick-started in Changchun City on February 26, 2022. Jing Junhai, Secretary of the CPC Jilin Provincial Committee, joined the ceremony and declared the start of the project. Han Jun, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Jilin Provincial Committee and Governor of Jilin Province, addressed the ceremony. 

The project, which is under the FAW Fudi New Energy Technology Co., Ltd. jointly founded by FAW and BYD, is said to be invested with RMB13.5 billion. Upon going operational, it can support 600,000 electric cars and bring about an output value of more than RMB20 billion every year. Before the ceremony, Jing Junhai and Han Jun met with the delegation led by Wang Chuanfu, President and CEO of BYD. Jing Junhai pointed out that the cooperation in this regard between BYD and FAW is a practical action to deeply implement the important speeches and instructions made by General Secretary Xi Jinping during his inspection trips to Jilin Province and FAW, and also an important measure to speed up the construction of pillar industries of new energy vehicles and spare parts in Jilin Province, adding, “It is hoped that BYD will seize the opportunity of market expansion of new energy vehicles, keep up with the development trend of ‘four automotive modernizations in the new era’, constantly expand the fields of cooperation with FAW and auto parts manufacturers in Jilin Province, further increase investment, plan and implement major projects, join hands with the province to overcome a number of key technologies, optimize and strengthen industrial and supply chains, accelerate the congregation of industrial clusters, continuously improve industrial ecosystem, facilitate the construction of a world-class automobile center in the city and thus help national automobile brands to surpass and take the lead in the arena of new energy vehicles.”

The battery production project by FAW and BYD, another major project settled in the Changchun International Automobile City after the Audi-FAW New Energy Vehicle project, is expected to promote the transformation and upgrading of automobile industry in Jilin Province and facilitate the creation of Changchun into a world-class automobile city. It is hoped that the two sides will take the project as an opportunity to deepen cooperation in such fields as new energy vehicle technology research, industrial support and talent recruitment, extend and strengthen industrial, innovative and value chains, and jointly create a new chapter of mutual benefits and win-win results. The city and all departments involved shall implement the agreement as required, integrate resources, have services accurately connected, make every effort to provide the best incentives, surroundings and conditions to ensure the project can go operational and yield benefits at the earliest possible time and thus provide a strong support for Jilin’s revitalization and taking the lead in making breakthroughs,” said Han Jun in his speech.  

Zhang Zhijun, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Jilin Provincial Committee and Secretary of the CPC Changchun Municipal Committee, and Xu Liuping, President of FAW Group, expressed their confidence and determinations to deepen win-win cooperation and jointly promote the construction of the project. In his speech, Wang Chuanfu thanked Jilin Province and Changchun City for their strong support for the construction of the project, saying, “We will work as one to integrate advanced technologies, optimize investment layouts, design new cooperation projects, and thus facilitate the high-quality development of automobile industry of Jilin Province.”
