The Zoological and Botanical Garden is located in the southeast of Changchun, 500 meters to the eastern side Renmin Street, and three kilometers away from Renmin Square. It covers an area of 74 hectares. It was built in 1938, restored in 1984 and opened to the public on September 15, 1987.  　

The landform inside the garden is complicated, with a man-made lake separating it into three natural parts. The west is mainly the man-made mountain; the east, the animal exhibition area; and the north, the large amusement park and flower production area.

In addition to over 200 varieties of rare animals, there is also a “Paradise of Birds” inside the animal exhibition area. Inside the park there is also a 1.3-hectare Japanese-style garden called “Garden of Friendship”.

On the man-made mountain, there are over 140 kinds of woody plants, including some rare varieties that grow in Changbai Mountain area, but can only be found in Jilin Province.
