Zilina Introduction - Zilina is the 3rd largest city in the Republic of Slovakia and the economic and cultural center in the northwest. The total area is 1,097 square kilometers. It has a population of 200,000. There are all kinds of industries, such as fuel industry, chemical industry, machinery, and metal manufacturing industry. Automobile industry is especially of importance. With sufficient communicating facilities, Zilina is also a vital hub of communications.
On 23 November 1992 in Changchun, Mr. Mi Fengjun and Mr. Young Slota, mayors of the two cities, signed up an agreement of establishing sister-city relations.
In June 1993, Mr. Yu Fujin, vice mayor, led a delegation visited Zilina and draft a plan for further cooperation. In 1995, two investigation groups from Changchun and Zilina, signed an agreement on cooperation.
In July 1995, Mr. Zhang Mingyuan, director of Municipal People's Congress, went to Zilina and implemented a project of exporting 1,000 small four-wheel driven tractors. He also signed a contact plan for 1997. Substantial progress was made then.
In January 2006, Mr. Marian Janusek, vice mayor of Changchun visited Changchun and attended the 12th Annual Conference of the World Winter Cities Association for Mayors, which held in Changchun from January 13 to 18, 2006.
