The Storage Tank 1#, the main work of Project LNG Emergency Storage and Distribution, invested and constructed by Changchun Natural Gas Group Co., Ltd., was completed on July 25, 2021. It marks a major breakthrough has been made in the project before it goes operational in June 2022. 

As an energy security project under the supervision of the state, it is also an important project for factor guarantee and people’s livelihood of Changchun City. It was started in December 2019, mainly covering two 50,000m3 LNG storage tanks with a total storage capacity of meeting the city’s demand of natural gas for more than 20 days. 

Upon completion, the project will help further optimize the energy structure of Changchun City, making the storage capacity of natural gas promoted to a leading position among domestic provincial capital cities, and further expand the storage and distribution station’s function as an energy hub which will meet the increasing demand of the four plates for natural gas, provide safe and stable energy supply for large enterprises, and thus realize the connectivity with external market and ensure energy security and stability of the city. 

The LNG storage tank is the most important facility of the whole project. It adopts the most advanced material in the world-9Ni, the largest double-layer, full-capacity metal storage tank being built in China. 

Capping is the most complicated process of the highest technical content, the most difficult to operate and control. The spherical crown shaped storage tank dome is composed of 80 radial beams, 7 ring beams and 123 lining plates. The diameter of the dome is 50.4m, the net weight is about 355.6t and the lifting height is 39.93m. Insiders say it takes about 8 hours to go up to the roof, safe and stable due to the utilization of a number of key, proprietary, safe and reliable technologies such as lifting method and whole-set construction for large project of LNG storage tanks. For the next step, focus will mainly be put on the interior installation and construction of the project.
