A “unicorn” enterprise is known as one which was newly established but with a high valuation, strong strength and unique commercial mode which can hardly be copied by its counterparts. According to the “Research Report on Unicorn Enterprises 2021 in China” released by Great Wall Strategy Consulting, a new economic think-tank, Chang Guang Satellite Technology Co., Ltd. became the only one in Northeast China that appeared on the list of Unicorn Enterprises in 2020 in China.  

As a unicorn enterprise listed in 2020 for the arena of commercial satellites, Chang Guang, the first commercial remote sensing satellite company in China, was established in December 2014 and successfully launched China’s first independently developed high-resolution remote sensing commercial satellite “Jilin-1” on October 7, 2021, with a number of technical indicators that reached international advanced level and created a list of firsts in China, thereby serving as a prelude to China’s commercial aerospace industry. Relying on the key technology of “Spaceborne Integration”, Chang Guang has so far managed 11 launches which increased the number of Jilin-1 satellites to 25, the largest matrix of commercial remote sensing satellites in China. The success of “Jilin-1” 03 in particular by “one rocket for nine satellites” set a new launch record on the sea, and also put the matrix of “Jilin-1” satellites in high gear for construction. 

“This year, we will manage to have 60 ‘Jilin-1’ satellites on orbit which will be able to revisit any place in the world in 30 minutes,” said Jia Hongguang, Secretary of Chang Guang’s Party Committee, adding, “As a new member of unicorn enterprises, Chang Guang is expected to enjoy a new boom of growth. For the ‘14th Five-Year Plan’, 138 ‘Jilin-1’ satellites will get connected to have a capacity of revisiting any place in the world within 10 minutes, and thus provide global developers an important platform of data exploring for the better and convenience of people’s life.
