Changchun on List of Top 100 Innovative Clusters of the World

According to the report of Global Innovation Index (GII) 2020 released by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Changchun became one of the Top 100 Innovative Clusters, ranking the 87th.  

Over the past years, Changchun has been pushing forward the innovation in science and technology with the guidance of Xi Jinping’s Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics and the “1-2-4-5” innovation-driven development strategy and arrangement by the CPC Changchun Municipal Committee and the People’s Government of Changchun City, with unremitting efforts put into industry-university-research institute coordinated innovation mechanism, improving comprehensive service system for science and technology innovation, optimizing innovative, entrepreneurial development environment, improving scientific innovation level, triggering intrinsic power for innovation-driven development for the construction of the “four plates” by taking improving scientific innovation’s supporting and leading role in promoting the high-quality, socioeconomic development as the goal and strengthening the construction of scientific innovation capacity and system as the main thread to provide scientific support for the construction of a modern metropolitan area, the comprehensive, all-round revitalization of Changchun City.  

The top 100 cities on the list include Tokyo, Shenzhen, HKSAR, Guangzhou, Seoul, Beijing, New York, Shanghai, Paris, Washington, etc. The report of GII is jointly released by WIPO, Cornell University and INSEAD. Since 2007, a total of 13 such reports have been released. The report is considered the bellwether of innovation and creation of global economy and also taken as important reference for economic decision making by all countries. The distribution of innovative clusters is consistent with that of fast-growing economies around the world.
