As part of its efforts meant to better respond to the profound changes in the automobile industry, the cornerstone of FAW-VW’s new Technology Research and Development (R&D) Center in Changchun City was officially laid on October 28, 2019.  

The center is near at the intersection of Dongfeng Street and Xing’an Road, located inside FAW-VW Changchun Base, with a total construction area of 69,900 square meters. A total of RMB960 million is said to be invested. Upon completion, it will complete the comprehensive improvement and upgrading of R&D hardware while greatly improving FAW-VW’s R&D abilities in safety test, performance and durability test, intelligent lighting, drive system and verification, human-machine engineering research, etc. so as to better meet customers’ demands, further consolidate and expand technological advantages, and enhance market competitiveness. The center will also upgrade and improve the test facilities and equipment of new energy vehicles, and thus comprehensively improve FAW-VW’s research and development level and test capacity of new energy vehicles.  

After 28 years of hard work, FAW-VW has achieved a cumulative output of more than 19 million vehicles. Due to its perseverance in attaching great importance to the construction of R&D system, FAW-VW has already had a list of important R&D departments for modeling and virtual reality, electromagnetic compatibility test, bench test, vehicle safety, trial production, acoustic system etc., which are equipped with world-class, domestically leading facilities. In addition, two test fields have been put into use. In recent years, FAW-VW has continuously increased its investment on research and development, roughly billions of yuan a year and more than 2,000 professionals. It has so far established a complete R&D system from concept development, modeling, structural test, component test to vehicle test.
