Cultural Activity Center, Museum of Fine Arts, Modern History Exhibition Center of Jilin Province Settled in City Proper of South 4th Ring Road

The complex Cultural Activity Center, Museum of Fine Arts and Modern History Exhibition Center of Jilin Province is subordinate to Jilin Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism. Its predecessor is the Cultural Activity Center of Jilin Province (formerly known as the Grand Theater of Jilin Province) which was founded in 1981 and put into use after eight years of construction in 1989, serving as the first professional venue in the province for accommodating large-scale operas from home and abroad.  

 

With the development of social economy and culture, the original site becomes unsuitable for top-end performance of arts. In 2018, the Cultural Activity Center of Jilin Province was put on list of “relocation” and transformation into a complex of arts covering Cultural Activity Center, Museum of Fine Arts and Modern History Exhibition Center of Jilin Province. After rounds of discussions, the site was finally decided in Changchun’s southern city proper, south of the 4th Ring Road, west of Xinming Street, north of Huayi Road and east of Huachang Street, covering a land area of 112,865 square meters including 66,210 square meters for Cultural Activity Center, 24,285 for Museum of Fine Arts and 10,082 for Modern History Exhibition Center. 

 

The complex, which is scheduled to be started this year (2020), and predicted to be completed in 2024, covers Grand Theater, Concert Hall, Multi-functional Hall, Art Museum and Memorial Hall for Northeast Anti-Japanese United Army that integrate such functions of art training and construction of cultural industries as performance of elegant arts like large-scale musical and symphony, art exhibition, exchange and patriotic education. It is expected to become the largest, the most functional and domestically top-notch cultural center, with 1,800 seats for Cultural Activity Center, 1,200 seats for Music Hall and 700 seats for Multi-functional Hall that are able to meet the functional requirements of large-scale, comprehensive performance of arts including opera, dancing drama, drama, symphony, singing and dancing, folk art and acrobatics and meanwhile can accommodate world-class art performance groups.  

In addition to the functions mentioned above, the spotlights also include the design for which the characteristics of Northeast China are adopted in line with the concept of “city park” which fits the site with and highlights the regional, cultural characteristics of Changchun city through the innovation of such landscapes as ice and snow melting and spring returning to the earth. The Cultural Activity Center is based on the theme of ice and snow melting to interpret the vision of spring of cultures and arts. The transparency of ice and the purity of jade are adopted into the design of Museum of Fine Arts to best reflect the elegance of arts. The Modern History Exhibition Center is designed in line with the theme of the world of ice and snow in North China to fully demonstrate the spirit of the people of Jilin Province under CPC’s leadership who were striving for national independence and people’s liberation, have been contributing to the construction of homeland and are keeping pace with the times. 

 

In addition to the Cultural Activity Center, Museum of Fine Arts and Modern History Exhibition Center of Jilin Province, according to the Overall Planning of Changchun City, the Guangming Park which covers Children’s Palace, Aviation Park and Exhibition Center integrate gardening, plant science popularization and public fitness will also get settled in the same region to meet the growing spiritual and cultural demands of the people in Changchun City, and meanwhile facilitate the maturity of the cultural plate located in Changchun’s southern city proper.
