The Audi-FAW New Energy Vehicle (NEV) Project was officially started in Changchun City on February 18, 2022. Jing Junhai, Secretary of the CPC Jilin Provincial Committee, declared the launch of the project. Han Jun, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Jilin Provincial Committee and Governor of Jilin Province, addressed the ceremony. 

The project, Audi’s first production base engaged in producing pure electric vehicles in China, is planned to be invested with RMB35.8 billion. Based on PPE’s platform as well as digital, IOT and eco-friendly technologies, it is expected to produce 150,000 NEVs a year after the first phase construction is completed. Before the ceremony, Jing Junhai and Han Jun inspected the construction site as part of deployments to promote in an all-round way the commencement of the project, saying, “It is pleasant to see all equipment working efficiently and all work progressing as efficiently and orderly as expected.” “The project is a practical action to implement the spirit of the important speeches and instructions made by General Secretary Xi Jinping during his inspection trip to FAW and other places in Jilin Province,” said Jing Junhai, adding, “It is of extraordinary significance to developing and expanding the modern new automobile and auto parts industries and accelerating the all-round, comprehensive revitalization of Jilin Province in the new era. All departments should further optimize approval and coordination procedures, and provide first-class services to ensure the smoothness of project construction. Changchun City should constantly improve regional planning, industrial and life support facilities, and promote in a better way the aggregation of industries and talents. Audi and FAW should be well prepared with sufficient technical resources to ensure the project can go operational as soon as possible.”

All involved should bring into full play the leading role of the project, keep up with the era of electrification, intelligence, networking and common sharing of automotive industry, speed up technological innovation and green transformation, further extend industrial chain, strengthen innovation chain, enhance value chain, and build a new energy system integrating R&D and design, NEV and NEV parts manufacturing and market service, secure the position leading the development of NEV industry, and facilitate FAW’s striving for a world-class enterprise as well as Changchun’s effort in building an international first-class automobile city. The government will make every effort to best serve the project in a top-notch environment, and thus create the most advanced NEV plant around the world,” said Han Jun. 

Zhang Zhijun, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Jilin Provincial Committee and Secretary of the CPC Changchun Municipal Committee, Xu Liuping, President and Party Secretary of FAW Group, and Jürgen Unser, President of Audi China, delivered speeches at the ceremony through which they expressed their commitments and determinations to deepen cooperation and promote project construction for win-win results. The president of Audi AG congratulated the start of the project and wished all sides of the partnership a success in a video speech. 

Wu Jingping, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Jilin Provincial Committee and Executive Deputy Governor of Jilin Province, presided over the ceremony. Among the guests attended the ceremony also included Hu Jiafu, Li Wei and Wang Zilian, General Manager Qiu Xiandong of FAW Group, An Guiwu, Secretary General of the People’s Government of Jilin Province and Liu Yunfeng, Executive Vice President of Volkswagen China.
