In the first half of this year, the foreign trade volume of Jilin Province hit a new record high of RMB79.1 billion, up 30.2% year on year, ranking the first in Northeast China.

Jilin, which is situated in the middle of Northeast China, is a heavyweight role player in China in such fields as automobile, rail transit, satellite and general aviation. Automobile industry is the “ballast stone” of real economy in the province. In the first half of the year, automobile imports and exports maintained its role of support for the growth of foreign trade in Jilin Province.

According to Yu Bin, Deputy General Manager of FAW Import and Export Corporation, 10,500 vehicles were exported in the first half of this year, up 130% year on year, which is more than the total of 2020. This is mainly due to the gradual resumption of work and demand in overseas markets, the return back to normal of domestic marketing service and other professionals to overseas business positions, the resumption of all work, and the recovery of sales in Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and other major export markets.

If such momentum continues in the second half of this year, 23,500 vehicles can be exported as expected for the whole year, totaling USD500 million, up 102% year on year.

For the foreign trade in the first half of the year, according to Zhang Guigang, Director of the Foreign Trade Development of Jilin Provincial Department of Commerce, strong support for the development of foreign trade has been facilitated by the rapid economic growth, optimization and adjustment of industrial structure, and continuous improvement of business environment of the province.

Jilin Province established a support mechanism and an information database for key foreign trade enterprises in the first half of this year as an effort to solve the difficulties and problems in foreign trade, and approved 362 new foreign trade enterprises and 3 national foreign trade transformation and upgrading bases.

In addition, new business formats and models including cross-border e-commerce also added new vitality to the development of foreign trade in Jilin Province. Statistics show that that in the first half of this year more than 500 enterprises went operational at such cross-border e-commerce platforms as Alibaba international and dunhuang.com.
