Director General Qi Guohua Attends UCLG-ASPAC Councils Meeting & Symposium on Marine Economy and City Development

The 2017 UCLG-ASPAC Councils Meeting & Symposium on Marine Economy and City Development, which is sponsored by UCLG, and organized by the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and the People’s Government of Fuzhou City, was held on November 9, 2017. The delegation of Changchun Foreign Affairs Office (CCFAO) led by Director General Qi Guohua attended the meeting.

The event was attended by some 200 representatives including governors and mayors of 22 countries and regions like UCLG-ASPAC President and Head of Cheju-do, ROK, Chairman of Local Government Councils of Punjab Province, Pakistan, and some domestic officials including Wang Ning, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Fuzhou Provincial Committee and Secretary of the CPC Fuzhou Municipal Committee, You Mengjun, Mayor of Fuzhou City, Song Jingwu, Vice President of Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries.

“The achievements made by UCLG-ASPAC in recent years are heartening. The Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries is willing to continue to support the deepening of exchanges among the local governments, and serve the development of UCLG-ASPAC,” said Vice President Song Jingwu in his opening speech. During the meeting, the first sessions for UCLG-ASPAC 21st Century Marine Cooperation Committee and Belt and Road Cooperation Committee for Local Governments were held respectively. The two committees were founded thanks to the initiatives by the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, Fuzhou City and Hangzhou City under the framework of UCLG-ASPAC. The founding of two committees was unveiled as an achievement of the Branch Forum on Connectivity of People’s Hearts of Belt and Road International Cooperation Forum held in Beijing in May this year.

Qi Guohua, Director General of CCFAO, joined the discussions of the two sessions as a representative of the founding members of the two committees. For the next step, on the basis of the two professional committees and by making good use of such good top-end international platforms as UCLG-ASPAC, CCFAO will deepen cooperation and explore new space for the foreign affairs of Changchun City and thus promote the construction of a central city in the region of Northeast Asia.
