The Iron Flower
The Iron Flower is one of the national cultural heritages, a folk tradition of pyrotechnics in Henan which was started during the Jin dynasty.
The Queshan Iron Flower, also known as "Beat Iron Flower", is a large-scale folk traditional firework common in Queshan County, Henan Province. It began in the Northern Song Dynasty and flourished in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, having a history of more than a thousand years. During the Queshan Iron Flower Show, a six-meter-high double-layered wall was set up in an open field, densely covered with fresh willow branches and tied with fireworks and firecrackers. More than a dozen performers use special tools to cast molten iron heated to over a thousand degrees onto the wall's surface, forming beautiful "iron flowers" that can reach over ten meters in height. The molten metal ignites the fireworks and firecrackers, leading to spectacular pyrotechnic shows.
