Wolfsburg Introduction
Wolfsburg situates in the State of Lower Saxony (Niedersachsen), and has a total population of 130,000 people. The headquarters of Volkswagen Group is stationed in Wolfsburg. Since Volkswagen was founded in 1934, Wolfsburg has blossomed into one of the most important industrial cities in the northern Germany. It is also the largest automobile manufacturing center in Europe. Some 50,000 people, approximately 40% population of Wolfsburg, work for Volkswagen. Therefore, it is safe to say that Wolfsburg is born for Volkswagen.
As the third largest auto manufacturer after General Motors, Ford and Toyota, Volkswagen is also a well-known multinational Konzern with 260,000 employees around the world. It has so far opened many subsidiary companies in other countries and established 12,600 sales, maintenance and repair service stations.
Exchange and Cooperation between Changchun and Wolfsburg
Since the beginning of the cooperation between FAW and Volkswagen, Changchun and Wolfsburg have so far made great achievements in the field of auto manufacturing, and the two cities are expected to expand their cooperation in many other sectors in the future.
1. In April 2003, Mr. Zhang Anshun, vice mayor of Changchun, led an 18-member delegation to visit Wolfsburg and the headquarters of Volkswagen at the invitation of the mayor of Wolfsurg. The two sides exchanged views on how to further promote the mutual development. Mr. Zhang Anshun extended his invitation to the mayor of Wolfsburg to visit Changchun.
2. In April 2003, an auto industry delegation held China (Changchun) Auto Industry Development Orientation in Leipzig, Germany. During the time, enterprise representatives of Changchun held project-matching talks with over 40 German enterprises.
3. In July of 2003, the mayor of Wolfsburg and his delegation attended the third Changchun Automobile Expo, and held business talks with Changchun Municipal People’s Government.
4. In April 2004, a 23-member delegation from Changchun visited Wolfsburg and held economic and trade conference at Hanoverian, State of Lower Saxony. Some 60 representatives from Germany attended the meeting.
5. In November of 2004, Mr. Zhu Yejing, mayor of Changchun and Mr. Rolf Schnellecke, mayor of Wolfsburg, held talks in Changchun. The two mayors exchanged their views on how to further promote the relationship between the two cities, and signed the Memorandum of Friendly Cooperation between Changchun, China and Wolfsburg, Germany. As the economic and trade cooperation as well as the personnel training programs became increasingly frequent, the two sides agreed to stage various exhibitions, seek more cooperative opportunities in more fields, and establish network exchange platform.
6. In September 2004, a delegation from Changchun paid a business trip to Frankfurt am Main. Many

Honorary Citizen Title
Over the past several years, Changchun Municipal People’s Government conferred the title of “Honorary Citizen of Changchun” to eight German experts who made contributions to the socioeconomic development of Changchun, including Carl Hahn, board chairman of Volkswagen Group and honorary chairman of the Supervision Committee of Audi Company, as well as the president of Volkswagen Group and so on. Besides, many other German experts also received awards at the National Day receptions and other occasions. |
