With quality and fertile blackland, Changchun is an ideal place for growing of crops. Among the top 100 large grain-production-counties, five of them come from city of Changchun.
Three of the five are among the top 10 including Nong’an county and Yu Shu City which rank the first and the second place.
Changchun is the seat of Golden Corn Belt of the world. The annual corn production is around 7.5 million tons.
Base on the resource advantages, development of the agricultural industrialization has been accelerated. The agricultural products and food processing have become the second largest pillar industry of the city. It can be classified into ten leading sectors, namely corn, soybean, paddy, herbal medicine, pig raising, cattle raising, chicken raising, goose raising and deer raising, etc. It has created job opportunities for 240,000 migrant rural workers and have made 500,000 peasant families involved in the industrial chain. Now, the food processing workshops have exceeded 1,000 units among which 150 of them are leading enterprises including 8 of national level.
The export volume of beeves by Jilin Haoyue Islamic Meat Group ranks the first in China. Its annual processing capacity is 200,000 heads of cattle.
Dacheng Group has an annual processing capacity of corn at 2.4 million tons, ranking the first in Asia and the third in the world. Its annual output of lysine is 300,000 tons which clinches the largest production in the world. In 2005, the Corn Industrial Park, covers 60 square kilometers, was formally set up in Changchun.
Jilin Deda Company,with annual chicken processing capacity of 200,000 heads, is the largest on export volume in China.
Changchun is one of the most important marketing grain producing bases in China. Some key indices of the city such as the per capita crop occupancy volume, commodity grain volume and trading volume have topped the nation’s large and medium sized cities for many years. She is also the main producing area of the “Dongbei Rice”, the best quality rice in China.
